Dear Mister Condo,
Can we change our annual meeting date from October to Late August as requested by Unit owners and Trustees?
Mister Condo replies:
P.Z., there are many reasons that associations decide to change their annual meeting dates. As long as the rules for making that change are followed, it is allowable. Most likely, an amendment to the governing documents will be required. That means a motion to make the change and proper notice to all involved in making the vote. Once the vote is held and the date has been changed, all unit owners have to be properly noticed according to both the governing documents and state law. All future owners need to be provided with updated amended documents alerting them to the annual meeting date change. As long as all of the steps are followed properly, the date can be changed.
