Dear Mister Condo,
My Board of Directors wants me to paint my new white front door brown as its the condominium-approved color. I have called a contractor to paint it who informed me that they can paint only in spring. My BOD has given me a deadline of Nov 10th. Otherwise they will have it painted at my cost. Can I give them the quote and the payment I made? Would that stop them from forcing a painter on me?
Mister Condo replies:
S.H., I am sorry you find yourself at odds over the color of your new door and the timeframe in which the color must be applied. One would hope that common sense would prevail but if the Board is going to stick to the rules and enforce the measure, you really have only two choices. Have the door painted before their deadline or have them paint the door for you and bill you for the work (and/or any additional fines or fees you may have incurred from the infraction). If it were me, I would speak with several contractors and explain waiting until the Spring is simply not an option. If the association can find one to paint your door, so can you. All the best!
