Dear Mister Condo,
I added an awning above my patio. What insurance will cover this? I have an HO6 policy and condo has master policy but I don’t see where either policy covers these items. Also, patio furniture and a grill.
Mister Condo replies:
B.P., even though you may not see it listed as such, many homeowner policies consider patio furniture and such are often covered as part of your dwelling coverage. Every policy is different and I would definitely suggest you speak to your insurance agent or underwriter but my guess is your HO6 policy has got you covered. The awning is another story. The HOA insurance wouldn’t cover it unless it is owned by the association Your own insurance may have limitations on the coverage and might frown upon a wind damage claim, especially if taking the awning down during sever weather events is recommended by the manufacturer. Your insurance agent or underwriter is your best source for the details. All the best!
