Dear Mister Condo,
I pay my condo fees and I am very frustrated with the association upkeep for the common areas. I have emailed, called and spoke to in person and response is always I put in work order. What should I do?
Mister Condo replies:
R.W., putting in a work order isn’t working so you need to escalate your complaint to the next level. That means a letter to or an appearance before the Board of Directors at their next scheduled meeting. The Board directs the work of the association through the association management company. If you complain to the Board, there is a record of your complaint and you might find that others have complained as well. If enough people complain, the Board should act. If the Board does not act, you need to get some new Board members that will place a priority on association upkeep and landscaping. Perhaps you should consider running for the Board yourself. Then you would be in a position to make sure the common area was upkept more to your liking. If the Board does not change or of the Board does not ask the management company to do a better job, it is unlikely you will see any change. Good luck!
