R.L. from Broward County, Florida writes:
Dear Mister Condo,
What can I do about the lack of maintenance around the condo that I rent? There is one sidewalk that I must walk to get to and from the parking area from my unit and it is ALWAYS riddled with animal feces and other bodily fluids. When it rains there is an enormous puddle that my children and I must walk through to get to and from the unit. This has been like this for years. My landlord has sent many emails to the association and copied me and nothing is being done. I am so disgusted with this place and feel trapped as I can’t afford another apartment. What are the steps I can take?
Mister Condo replies:
R.L., I am sorry that you find yourself in such a difficult position. Clearly, this condo association isn’t being properly maintained and your fellow condo dwellers have no interest in cleaning up after their pets or themselves. I won’t ask what “other bodily fluids” are found on your walkways but I think you have painted a vivid picture of what you have to endure. As a renter, you are not a member of the association so acting through your landlord is appropriate. Your landlord seems to be doing all that can be reasonably expected. Unless the Board decides to move forward with repairs and water drainage repair, I am afraid there is little else to be done. You mentioned that moving was out of the questions but that would be my only other suggestion. Please have your landlord continue to complain to the Board. Good luck!
