Dear Mister Condo,
Does a president of HOA have to live in the complex?
Mister Condo replies:
S.S., typically, HOAs have rules about ownership, not residency, regarding who can serve on the Board, not just the President, but any Board position. This makes sense because the Board are the officers of the corporation and should have an ownership position and vested interest in the community. Residency is another thing altogether and I am not aware of any associations that require residency as a condition for serving on the Board. Check your documents to be sure but, most likely, the only requirement to serve is to own within the HOA. All the best!
