Dear Mister Condo,
Is there a limit on time for renovation of a condo unit?
Mister Condo replies:
G.P., there is not a “one size fits all” response I can offer. It really depends on what type of renovation and who has approved and is performing the renovation. If a condo neighbor of yours has applied to have some type of work done that requires Board approval and that approval has been granted, the work may or may not have been approved with a time limit for completion. If it is renovation that does not require approval, it might be up to the owner to finish when he can. If a unit was damaged and there is an insurance claim delaying the work, it could take weeks, months, even years for the work to be completed. If you are being denied peaceable enjoyment of your unit because of ongoing renovation work performed by a neighbor or even the association, contact the Board with your concern. You should get a reply and then you can take the next step to secure your peaceable enjoyment. All the best!
