Dear Mister Condo,
My sliding glass door was destroyed by a large amount of snow that fell off the roof at my complex. Whose responsibility is it to make the repairs?
Mister Condo replies:
M.G., I am sorry that you experienced a loss from snow damage. In my experience, such damage would be covered by your homeowners’ insurance policy. If you make a claim and the insurer denies it, claiming it was the responsibility for the condo association, then you might see if the association has insurance for such damage. Contact your insurer first. If they pay, you’re all set. If they don’t, pursue other avenues. And let’s hope you don’t get hit with another avalanche! Good luck!
I have worked on hundreds of condos over the years. I have never once been asked to remove snow from a roof. My question is who is responsible for the sliders association or unit owners?
J., most likely the homeowners. Some associations consider the sliders as windows, others actually call them sliding doors. Either way, if the documents are silent on the responsibility it often falls to the homeowners.
