Dear Mister Condo,
My father’s small condo was willed to me after his death. It included a boat slip which is listed as an “Extra Feature” on the latest County Tax appraisal. There was no sale of the slip or the Condo but was inherited. Is the 6% sales tax on the slip applicable for this transfer.
Mister Condo replies:
K.B., as you know, I am neither an accountant nor an expert in Florida tax law so I can only offer friendly advice here. You would be well advised to seek a legal opinion or a tax accountant’s professional advice in this matter. I did do a quick internet search on the subject and my instinct is to say “Yes” the tax is applicable. I couldn’t find any exceptions that would make it non-taxable but, as stated earlier, I am not the right expert to ask. I am sorry for your loss and happy for your gain. I hope that you enjoy your boat slip and your father’s memory. All the best!
