Dear Mister Condo,
I live in large condominium. Recently, the water supply to the bathroom valve was leaking. But it’s outside the unit on the hallway. This affects only my bathroom when they shut the water. Who is responsible? The HOA or the owner to replace the valve?
Mister Condo replies:
A.Z., I am sorry that you are having such an issue with your bathroom water supply. Depending on who owns the bathroom valve, it might be your responsibility or it might be the association’s. Typically, items outside of your home are association-owned. However, as is the case with this valve, it seems to service no other unit but yours, which makes me suspect that it might be your valve and your expense. Check your documents to see if it addresses the ownership of the component and proceed accordingly. All the best!
